GCS Middle School Volleyball Championship
The volleyball team at Ralph Chandler Middle opened their 2017 campaign with a win in their first match of the season 3-0. It was a trend that they would repeat the next ten regular season matches, going a perfect 33-0 in sets played during an undefeated regular season. In the playoffs, the Panthers didn't skip a beat as they swept their first and second round opponents 6-0, setting up a championship match against 10-1 Greer Middle. Quickly the Panthers fell behind 0-2 in a set that was back and forth early as both teams adjusted to the championship environment. Ralph Chandler would rally, building a 9-6 lead, before Greer rallied back to grab a 14-12 lead. Greer went on to hold a 15-14 lead, before the Panthers tied it at 15. It would be the last lead of the day for the Yellow Jackets. Emma Arce served the final three points of set one as Ralph Chandler took the set 25-18.
Arce opened the second set with eight straight service points, including an ace, to stake Ralph Chandler to a huge lead early. Emily Frazier would add four kills and seven points off service, including the last three of the set, as Ralph Chandler cruised to a 25-10 win.
In the third, and eventual final set, team captains Frazier, Arce and Amiyah Jessup combined for ten points on serve and eight kills. Libero Maddie Broome closed the set with back-to-back aces and Ralph Chandler completed an undefeated season where they went a perfect 42-0 in sets won.
