Dr. Mason Gary
Dr. Mason Gary has joined Greenville County Schools as deputy superintendent after serving as superintendent of Anderson (SC) District Three. Dr. Gary has 27 years of experience in the South Carolina school system as a teacher, coach, administrative assistant, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent.
As deputy superintendent, Dr. Gary directs the day-to-day operations of the school district and serves as second-in-command.
While serving in Anderson schools, Dr. Gary led the district in earning an Excellent Absolute Rating and Excellent Growth Rating on the District Report Card. He also led the expansion of career and technical course offerings and the addition of Advanced Placement and dual credit offerings. His tenure as principal at Palmetto High School resulted in four Excellent and two Good ratings on the School Report Cards, Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards, a Schools of Promise Award, a “Greatest Generation” Pilot School, and designation as a South Carolina Red Carpet School.
Dr. Gary earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Clemson University, a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University, and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Lander University.
