Dr. DeeDee Washington, a 20-year veteran educator, has served in administrative roles including curriculum facilitator, principal, personnel director, and classroom teacher. Dr. Washington most recently served as principal of Brushy Creek Elementary School, which was named a Red Carpet School and a Palmetto's Finest Finalist School under her leadership. The school was also recognized as a Palmetto Gold or Silver award winner for academic excellence and closing achievement gaps. In May 2012, she was named GCS Administrator of the Year. Dr. Washington earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina, master's degree from Converse College, and Doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
