Woodland Peace Flag

Peace Flag

Purpose:  To promote a kind and peaceful environment

  • Our goal is to keep the Peace Flag flying every day, but sometimes students forget about our goal of maintaining a kind and peaceful environment.  When that happens, the Peace Flag will come down.
  • Students need to understand that their behavior can affect the entire school
  • The Peace Flag is NOT to be used a classroom management technique and should not be used as a punishment
  • Every afternoon Ms. Mote will announce whether the flag stayed up or if it had to be taken down.

Procedures:

  • If you think a student does something that warrants the Peace Flag coming down, please send them to see a counselor.  Either send us an email about the incident or send the student with a note.
  • Remember, the flag CANNOT be used a consequence so if a consequence is needed you must give that in your classroom
  • If you send a student and we are not here, we will get the student ASAP as long as we have a note or email notifying us too.  For this to be effective the flag needs to be removed the day of the incident.  Even if something happens at 2:00 the flag will be removed for that day, hence breaking the cycle and therefore the goal (10 days) will start again.
  • If you feel that your whole class has done something to warrant the flag coming down then you are welcome to take your class to take it down.   You need to email one of us (Natalie or Elizabeth) to let us know that it’s been taken down- (in the near future an adult will remove the outside flag as well).   Since the flag can’t be used a consequence, you could say something like, “The environment in our class today has not been peaceful, therefore I don’t think the Peace Flag deserves to stay up.”

Rewards:

  • If the flag stays up for 10 consecutive school days, we will have a Peace Drawing the next day on the morning show.  Every teacher will draw one name out of his or her Peace Pot and those students will win a prize.
  • Occasionally, we will do class prizes and we provide a prize for one class per grade level.
  • If we go an entire 9 weeks without having to take it down, then we will have a larger prize.
