Woodland
Elementary is led by the principal, Wanda G. Mote, who is in her twelfth year
guiding the school. She is assisted by Le’Keisha Brown and Charles Davis, our
assistant principals.
Teachers at Woodland Elementary School try to keep abreast of the latest methods
of delivering instruction. We have taken advantage of staff development
opportunities that are offered in the district and through nearby universities,
in addition to attending conferences. We recognize that students learn in
different ways. Teachers are encouraged to try a variety of instructional
strategies to address the different learning styles of students. Our highest
priority is implementing the strategies related to our vision: “Where children
come first and excellence is the way of life.”
At each
grade level, teachers are encouraged to work together as a team. Each grade
level has common planning time during the school day on Thursdays. We also work
across grade levels to ensure a continuum of learning that makes sense for the
students. These teams are set up to make sure every teacher is teaching to the
standards and that each is clear on what we want our students to know and do.
We have utilized vertical teaming by forming subject area committees that will
meet to discuss various ways to improve our instruction throughout the school.
Such activities include Family Reading nights and Family Math night.
We will continue our commitment of analyzing all types of data that impact
student achievement. With the increased amount of data available to us, we are
striving to ensure that each child is directed toward reaching his/her full
potential.
Woodland Elementary is committed to helping each child succeed.
“Where children come first and excellence is the way of life.”
Principal’s Points to Remember:
- Remind your children to check Lost & Found on a regular
basis. It is located at the bus entrance. Last year, we accumulated too many
coats to count!
- Students are allowed inside the building beginning at
7:20am. Only those students who will be meeting with their designated groups
before school, and teachers' children are allowed in the
building prior to 7:20am.
- Early dismissals are not granted after 2:00 pm.
Complete an early dismissal form and
send it in with your student to his/her teacher. This is strictly
enforced to ensure the safety of our children. Please keep this in mind when
making appointments.
- Dismissal begins at 2:30pm and all car riders should be
picked up from the school by 2:45pm. Please remain inside your car during
dismissal. Patrols and students must have a clear path in order to find the
correct car. All children should be able to get in the car and fasten their
seatbelts themselves.
- Please do not send cash to school unless it is a small
amount of money (change). To help avoid unfortunate circumstances it will be
best to send checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks when needed.
- Be aware and respectful of our new visitor and/or
volunteer guidelines.
- We invite you to volunteer in our school. We always
welcome helping hands!
