On December
14, members of the student council went on a fieldtrip to visit and
learn how the Ronald McDonald House helps the local community.
The house,
located just across from Greenville Memorial Hospital, provides families
of critically ill children with a comfortable place to stay, food, and
everyday necessities while their loved one receives care. In 2010, 425
families received help from the Ronald McDonald House. And while, a
night at the house cost approximately $89, families of sick children
stay for free thanks to the donations of businesses and community
members throughout Greenville. The house is open 365 days a year and
includes a family room, play room, kitchen, playground, and laundry room
to help families feel right at home.
During their
visit, the Westcliffe Elementary Student Council had the opportunity to
tour the house and present the staff with a check for $340.35.
