Student Records
All grades are dated, labeled and recorded in a Class Grade Book recorded and calculated using the district's IGPRO. Students take graded assignments home weekly for parent signature.

Portfolio and running records will be kept for each student in the classroom. These will document strengths and weaknesses in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Student performance will be discussed with parents as needed via parent-teacher conferences, phone calls, notes.

Permanent documentation for Reading and Math are placed in permanent records in the Records Room at the end of each school year.

Homework Policy
In complying with district policy each student in 3rd grade is expected to complete daily homework of approximately 30-45 minutes per day. Homework will be checked daily, collected and filed in student folders. If a student fails to complete daily homework assignments, the parent will be notified on the progress sheet attached to the weekly folder. A grade of “incomplete” will be entered in the Class Grade Book until the assignment is completed and turned in to the teacher.

Missed Work/Make-Up Policy
Students will adhere to the Greenville County School District policy of a 3-day grace period to complete and turn in missed assignments. If the teacher deems it beneficial or necessary she may extend this time allotment.

Attendance and Tardy Policies
Students will adhere to the Greenville County School District attendance and tardy policies.

Rules for Student Behavior/Presentation
Students assist in writing classroom rules on the first day of the school year. Below is a copy of the classroom rules for 2006- 2007:

Be respectful
Follow directions
Always do my best

These rules are reviewed with the students often. They are posted in the classroom and sent home for parent review and signature. These are also addressed at the Open House PTA meeting held at the beginning of the school year.

Consequences for Violating Class and School Rules
Consequences for inappropriate behavior are also sent home for parent review and reviewed often in the classroom. Every time a class rule is broken a stick is placed in the student's behavior pocket. The consequences are as follows:
1 stick= Warning
2 sticks= 5 minutes of recess time is spent walking the fence
3 sticks= 5 minutes of recess is spent walking the fence, Silent Lunch, completion of behavior report to be signed by parent and returned
4 sticks= Recess is spent walking the fence, Silent Lunch and NOTE/PHONE CALL home
5 sticks= Above consequences and Disciplinary Referral to the principal
* We adhere to the district policies regarding disciplinary action taken for students who violate district discipline codes. Some behaviors according to Greenville County School District Policy are immediate referral offenses.

Continuous disciplinary problems will be referred to the principal.

When necessary, student behavior contracts will be developed and utilized to correct inappropriate behavior. Referrals to the school counselor will be made for those students having continual difficulties abiding by the rules.
** As noted above, these consequences are reviewed with the students often. They are posted in the classroom and sent home for parent review and signature. These are also addressed at the Open House PTA meeting held at the beginning of the school year.

Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines
Bus Riders: Students arriving on buses will go to either the lunchroom for breakfast or the gymnasium for reading time. They will be dismissed to their classes at 7:45 a.m. Afternoon bus riders will be called for dismissal. Walkers and car riders will be dismissed at 2:25 p.m.

Arrival to the Classroom: Students will make lunch selections, sharpen pencils, and begin morning warm up as soon as they unpack.
Restroom/Water Fountain: Students are not to use the restroom or get water from the fountain during teacher directed instruction. Students may use the restroom any other time and are encouraged to wait until snack time and/or prior to/after lunch. Students must use a classroom pass to leave the classroom at any other time.

Snack: Students are allowed to bring a healthy snack from home. This is just a snack- something to hold them over until lunch and is something that can be eaten quickly. Healthy snacks include cheese, peanut butter, crackers, fruit, fruit rolls, etc. NO SODAS, CHIPS, COOKIES, OR CANDY!

Lunch: Students line up according to lunch choice. Students must remain quiet during the first ten minutes of lunch. Students will be dismissed by tables to empty trays and line up. Students are responsible for cleaning their tables.

Recess: Students will receive 15- 20 minutes of recess per day. Students will be expected to respect others and exhibit good sportsmanship on the playground at all times.

Lining Up: Students will be called to line up in a variety of ways. Entire rows and those paying attention are two methods. Line leaders will assist in keeping the line orderly and quiet. Students will walk without talking on the second block in a straight line with hands by their sides.

Field Trips: Students will be expected to abide by classroom rules. Any misbehavior will be referred directly to the principal and may result in severe consequences.

Money Collection: Students will give lunch money directly to the lunchroom supervisor. The classroom teacher will receipt money for field trips.

Emergencies: In the event of a fire, tornado, or other emergency situation, students will leave the room in a calm manner and follow the school emergency procedures accordingly.

Phone: Students will be permitted to use our classroom phone with permission from the teacher in situations which the teacher deems necessary. Forgotten homework, textbooks, lunches, or money does not constitute an emergency and may or may not be allowed upon the discretion of the teacher.

Rewards: Students may earn rewards they set with teacher approval for positive classroom behaviors. The class may earn extra recess, activity, computer time, or a marble jar party. The marble jar is used to promote a positive classroom environment. The class gets to add marbles for compliments from adults. The class then helps the teacher decide the reward.
