Guided Reading Block
The purpose of this block is to build comprehension, fluency with reading, and to introduce students to a variety of literature, such as stories, informational text, and poetry. Therefore, we will utilize many different resources to address the SC State Standards.

SCIENCE: Harcourt Science; District Science Kits

Scientific Inquiry
Standard 3-1: demonstrate an understanding of scientific inquiry, including the processes, skills, and mathematical thinking necessary to conduct a simple scientific investigation.
This Standard will be integrated into the curriculum throughout the year.

First Quarter:
Heat and Changes in Matter
Standard 3-4: demonstrate an understanding of the changes in matter that are caused by heat. (Physical Science)

Second Quarter:
Habitats and Adaptations
Standard 3-2: demonstrate an understanding of the structures, characteristics, and adaptations of organisms that allow them to function within their habitats. (Life Science)

Third Quarter:
Motion and Sound
Standard 3-5: demonstrate an understanding of how motion and sound are affected by a push or pull on an object and the vibration of an object. (Physical Science)

Fourth Quarter:
Earth Materials and Changes
Standard 3-3: demonstrate an understanding of Earth's composition and the changes that occur to the features of Earth's surface. (Earth Science)
