COURSE DESCRIPTION

Algebra II is intended to prepare students for college while focusing on the development of their ability to understand and apply Algebra to both abstract and practical problems. Topics covered will allow students to practice for college entrance exams as well as prepare them for a comprehensive final exam to be given at the completion of this course.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES


• Students will study Algebraic concepts with a heightened level of sophistication than that of their Algebra I course.
• Students will have a firm grasp on a variety of topics listed in the SC State Standards.
• Student will prepare for college while making connections that can be used in the real world.

• Linear Functions
• Solving Equations and Inequalities
• Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
• Polynomials
• Quadratic Functions
• Powers, Roots, and Radicals
• Rational Equations and Inequalities
• Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

STUDENT MATERIALS NEEDED

Textbook Pencils
3-ring binder (with paper) Calculator (TI-83 or comparable preferred)
Journal (Composition or Spiral Notebook)

CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE, RULES, AND PROCEDURES

Daily Student Behavior Expectations:
• Be on time.
• Be prepared.
• Be respectful.
• Be responsible.

Classroom Procedures and Routines:
• Instruction proceeds from bell to bell.
• Makeup work following absences must be completed within one week of the absence unless specified by the teacher.
• Homework assignments are due at the beginning of class and will not be accepted at a later time without special permission from the teacher.
Journals:
• Journals are to be kept up to date.
• They will be checked every 2-3 weeks.

• Telephone calls- my planning is during 2nd and 6th periods.

• Phone calls and/or requests for school conferences concerning failing grades, inappropriate behavior, or other concerns are made as needed, as well as positive calls.
• Parents can schedule phone or school conferences at their discretion.
