CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

START AND STOP

When the bell rings to begin class, students should be in their desks quietly getting out their homework, and their notebooks. Students who are not seated at the bell will be marked tardy! During class, students who choose to sleep will have detention. Students do not pack up materials before class is ended and are not dismissed until I say “ Au revoir!” (French classes), “¡Adios!” (Spanish classes). Students remain seated until dismissed by the teacher.

CARE OF TEXTBOOKS AND EQUIPMENT

Please cover and take care of your books. Do not keep pencils and papers in them. Book covers are available in class. The television, VCR, cassette recorder, CD player, projector, and computer are for instructional use and should only be used with permission and as instructed. Violation of this policy will result in permanent loss of permission to use the equipment.

EXTRA HELP

Extra help is available Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Please feel free to see me about getting help if you need extra practice or explanation. Do not wait until you get behind.

MAKEUP WORK

1) Students are responsible for making up all work missed. Upon returning, the student must check with the teacher for missed assignments. Missed assignments must be completed within five days.
2) If a student is absent the day of a quiz or a unit test, he/she is to arrange to take the test at the teacher’s convenience within the five day period.
3) Students absent on the day of an oral presentation must present their work the next class day.
4) If a student misses a homework assignment by accident, he has 2 days to turn in the assignment with the understanding that after the 2 days it can not be made up. Each day that the homework is late, 10 points will be deducted from the final homework grade. The assignment must be written in complete sentences to receive full credit for the attempt.

IDENTIFYING WORK

Assignments must be fully identified in the top right hand corner as follows: Name, date, class, and assignment.

COLLECTING WORK

It will be handled in one of three ways.
1) The student holds the paper until it is called for. Papers are then passed to the front of the row where they are collected, stapled, and put in the large tray.
2) The student puts the work in the large tray and begins the next assignment.
3) The teacher will walk around the class to check assignment.

CLASS PARTICIPATION

All students must participate in all activities, both individual and group activities. Ticket out questions at the end of the period count as participation.

KLEENEX AND PENCIL SHARPENING
When a student needs to use Kleenex or to sharpen his/her pencil, the student is to raise his hand and ask permission. When I nod my head that the student may take care of the Kleenex or sharpen the pencil, he/she may stand up to use the sharpener or the Kleenex. No one is allowed to wander the classroom at will.

SEATING

Students will remain in their assigned seats unless instructed or given permission to move. Desks are not to be moved except for group work and are not to be moved next to the equipment, heating/air unit, or the door. Space must be left to walk between and around groups.

COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS

Progress reports will be sent home with every student each nine weeks. I am available to discuss grades or other concerns with students or parents upon appointment. Grades will not be discussed with students during class. The best time for parents to call (299-8393) is before 8:15 or after 3:30 p.m.

WORK AREAS

Each student is responsible for the upkeep of his/her work area during and at the end of class. Materials (including closed bookbags) should not be in the aisles during class, and at the end of class all trash in or around the desk goes in the trashcan—nowhere else. All classroom materials borrowed must be returned.

GUM, FOOD, DRINKS

No chewing gum is allowed in class as it is impossible to speak English, French or Spanish when chewing. If you chew gum, you will be handed a slip of paper asking you to put the gum in the trash quietly. No food or sodas are to be brought into the classroom as accidents happen, and they attract bugs and rodents.

PASSES

Each student receives two emergency passes per quarter as long as he/she has the agenda. Students with medical problems who need to see the nurse at certain times must have a medical pass from the nurse. You must use the restroom between classes or at lunch! Students who require a third emergency pass with agenda will be expected to serve detention with me. No student will be allowed to leave the class without his/her agenda. Students will not be allowed to leave class at will.

EXTRA CREDIT

Students may turn in one extra credit assignment that has been approved of by the teacher per quarter.

TARDIES

Students are to arrive on time. Students who are not seated at the bell will be counted tardy. Consequences of being tardy:
1) First and second tardies will receive a warning.
2) A third tardy results in after school detention.
3) A fourth tardy results in a parent contact and ISS.
4) Further tardies require a referral.
