Bellwork: Daily work will be on the transparency projector every day when you come to class. This will kept in your binders and turned in on Fridays. Each bellwork assignment should be dated; all assignments should be placed on one sheet as space allows. You will need to write the question and the answer (Q&A). If you are absent you are responsible to get the missing bellwork from a classmate. Supplies: You are responsible for bringing binder, textbook and a pencil or pen to class each day. Colored pencils and calculators are often used. Pencils: Pencils should be sharpened during bellwork time. After the teacher has started, student will raise hand with pencil in it. Teacher will nod that it is okay. (If it is not okay, teacher will shake head “no” and student will need to wait.) Repeated disruption due to pencil sharpening will result in lunch detention. Students without pencils may purchase a pencil from the teacher for 5 cents or trade an item of value as collateral and borrow a pencil for the period. Students whose pencils or pens have worn out may trade for a new pencil. Hall Passes: Restroom passes are not given during the first or last 10 minutes of class. To receive a restroom pass, you must fill in your agenda with the date, place you are going, and raise your agenda. The teacher will nod if you may go. Then you may fill in the time and bring to the teacher to sign. If the teachers shakes her head no, you may try again in ten minutes. Passes to lockers are not given; you are to bring all materials to class before you enter. Labeling assignments: All assignments should be labeled with your name, period, title, and date it is due. Not including your name may result in no credit for the assignment. Forgetting period, title or date may result in loss of 3 points for that assignment. Lecture and notes: Lectures are accompanied by notes which are an outline of the material you will be responsible for. When you follow the lecture listen to the teacher as you write. Take additional notes for your understanding. Record the textbook pages from which the material is taken so you may go home to read do assignments that accompany the lecture. Notebook Quizzes: Notebook quizzes are designed to help you 1.) review material in your notes, 2.) gain an understanding of the things you still need to master, and 3.) prepare for unit tests. You may use any and all notes in your binder, but textbooks are not allowed. Quizzes count for ˝ a test grade. Laboratory Activities (Labs): All laboratory activities will be performed at the table space and in the group which the teacher designates. All students are responsible to turn in their own written laboratory assignment, even though the work is done in pairs. Participation points are added to lab grades for extra effort in set-up, leadership, participation, or clean-up. A deduction of 10 points will be made to papers with multiple names attached. There are 3-6 laboratory activities per quarter. These count for 15% of your grade. Assignments: Assignments are due on the due date. Classwork assignments are due at the end of class. Reading and independent work should be done alone, unless a peer tutor has been assigned by the teacher. Homework assigned on Monday is due on Wednesday and homework assigned on Wednesday is due on Fridays. Late work is accepted with a deduction in grade of 10 points per day for that assignment. No late work is accepted if the assignment has been turned back to the class. The average of all your homework, classwork, and bellwork assignments is 35% of your grade. Participation Points: During test review and other discussions the teacher will record participation points which are added to your classwork grade. Participation points are also gained by bringing your textbook, and cooperative attitudes during group or laboratory activities. Tests: To prepare for tests students should: 1.) read the textbook material covered, 2.) highlight notes for vocabulary and important facts, 3.) study vocabulary words, 4.) practice the end of chapter assessments, 5.) study notebook quizzes. Extra Credit: Extra credit is offered at the end of every test and notebook quiz. These are generally articles which are read and a written response is turned in. Extra credit is due at the end of the week. These assignments give early finishers something to do and connect our lessons to the real world. Assignment-Effort-Grade Charts: At the beginning of each quarter a chart will be given to each student to keep in their binders. When assignments and tests are returned, the student will have the opportunity to record assignments on the chart and his/her grade. An option to grade yourself is also encouraged. It is vital that you understand that YOUR EFFORT will allow you to pass. Class Attendance and Make-up Work: It is the student’s responsibility to make up all work. If you are absent one day, see the teacher for your makeup assignments. Since tests are always announced two days ahead, you are responsible to take a test when you return. Extended absences will require you to see the teacher for a list of make up assignments and to arrange for taking missing quizzes and tests. Make-up work is due five school days following your return. If you cut class, you will receive a zero for any missing work. Cheating: Unless you have been given permission by the teacher to work with another student, students who copy homework or worksheets are cheating. This will result in a grade of zero for the assignment. Tests and quizzes are always to be done independently and cheating will result in a grade of zero. Classroom Rules: 1.
