Letter to Parents
Congratulations! Your student has chosen a rigorous, challenging, college-level course. We use a condensed version of Campbell's Biology and will supplement with the full-length edition and a text published by IB when necessary. This course demands a fast pace and is time-consuming. Encourage your student to manage their time wisely and to keep up. Too many absences can be highly detrimental. Students will need to purchase an AP Lab Manual. The current cost is $19 which includes shipping and handling. Upon receiving $19 , I can order this for you. The order will be sent on Sept. 27 - Please have your money in by Sept 20. Unfortunately, with the adoption of our new schedule, a few labs that cannot be broken up into 50 minute segments will have to be scheduled after school. I will be scheduling these within the first few weeks of school at least a month ,if not more, in advance so that your student can make arrangements. Grades are divided into 3 categories with the following weights: Tests - 60% Labs - 20% Other - 20% (Other includes quizzes, assignments, etc.) CP Classes: Bio I covers all the major themes of Biology. All biology courses will have an "End of Course Exam" which students must passs to gain credit for the class. To ensure their success both on this and on chapter tests, please encourage your child to make flash cards of vocabulary words as we study each chapter. Go over these with your student. Research shows that parental involvement improves test grades! Plus, it's one way to spend quality time with your young person. Grades are weighted in two categories: Tests - 50% Other - 50%(includes assignments,quizzes,etc) Since there will be many more papers in the "other" category, each paper in this category will count less than a test.
