Ms. Barrett's Algebra 2 Syllabus

Textbook: Algebra 2 by Larson, Boswell, Kanold and Stiff
Units: 1

Purpose:
Algebra 2 contains an in-depth study of functions, patterns, relations, and concepts of number systems. This includes linear, quadratic, exponential, absolute value, radical, and rational functions. Conic sections are also addressed. Hand-held graphing calculators are required as part of instruction and assessment. Students should use a variety of representations (concrete, numerical, algorithmic, graphical), tools (matrices, data), and technology to model mathematical situations in solving meaningful problems. Technology includes, but is not limited to, powerful and accessible hand-held calculators as well as computers with graphing capabilities.
Pre Requisites: Algebra 1 and Geometry

Materials:
1 Three-ring notebook with plenty of loose-leaf paper and separators
1 Spiral notebook for warm ups and journal entries
Graph paper
#2 pencils (mechanical)

Classroom Expectations:
1. Observe all rules in the student handbook.
2. Respect the rights of students to learn and my right to teach!
3. Come prepared to learn.
4. Keep hands, feet, objects, and comments to yourself.
5. Talking or using a cell phone during a quiz, test or any exam is considered cheating and will result in a 0.

Ms. Barrett’s Office Hours:
If you need help outside the classroom please come see me to set up a time to meet. Remember, if you don’t understand what is being covered in class, don’t hesitate to ask questions!!!

Ms. Barrett’s Detention Policy:
1st Offense: Documented warning and parent phone call
2nd Offense: 15-min. detention study hall in my classroom after school, parent phone call to verify date and documented attendance
3rd Offense: 30-min. Documented referral and parent phone call

Attendance:
It is extremely important that you attend class each day! Missed discussions and explanations are almost impossible to make up.

Tardy Policy:
You are tardy if you are not in the door quietly walking to your seat when the bell rings.
As per student handbook:
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: Parent call
3rd Offense: Referral
**If you are 10 minutes late (or more) you will be considered unexcused.

Grading:
Minor Assignments 40% = 50% Daily Participation + 50% Homework
Major Assignments 60% = 40% Quizzes + 60% Exams

Homework:
Homework is given everyday. Failure to turn in a homework assignment results in a zero. Late homework is not accepted.

Daily Participation:
Come to class on time and prepared.

Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given periodically.

Exams:
Exams will be given after each unit.

Breakdown of Grading Periods:
1st Semester Grade = 40% 1st Quarter Grade + 40% 2nd Quarter Grade + 20% Midterm Grade
2nd Semester Grade = 40% 3rd Quarter Grade + 40% 4th Quarter Grade + 20% Final Exam

Final Grade = 40% 1st Semester Grade + 40% 2nd Semester Grade + 20% End Of Course Grade

Grading Scale:
A = 100-93
B = 92-85
C = 84-77
D = 76-70
F = 69-63 (must repeat course for credit)
