Physical Education
2007 /08 Dear Parents and Students, Physical Education students are required to change from regular school clothes to the required physical education uniform. Below you will find the policies for the physical education courses taught at Southside High School. If you have any questions please feel free to call your instructor. 1. The required physical education uniform can be purchased for $15.00. The uniform will consist of a gray crew neck t-shirt and black gym shorts. (The following items must be purchased separately socks and tennis shoes) The student MUST wear socks and tennis shoes with backs. If you are unable to buy the required uniform from the physical education department you may provide your own uniform as long as it meets the requirements as previously stated. 2. If a student is not dressed out correctly points will be deducted from the dressing grade. 3. If the student fails to dress out, he / she will earn a zero for the day. 4. Winter gym suits (sweats/warm-ups) may be worn over the regular physical education uniform when the temperature is below 60 degrees. Students will not be allow to wear the warm –ups or sweats over regular school clothes. 5. Students with NOTES FROM A PARENT Or GUARDEN WILL BE REQUIRED TO DRESS OUT even though the student will not be participating in class activities. 6. Students can be excused from participation for any one illness up to three days with a written note signed by a parent or guardian. 7. All doctors’ notes will be honored. Please request that the doctor include the date the student will be able to return to full participation. 8. Students with medical notes will be assigned duties as well as research papers pertaining to the physical education curriculum during the time the student is unable to participate. 9. Students will be given six minutes to dress-out and seven minutes to dress in. 10. Students report directly to their assigned area and line up for roll call. Failure to line up will be considered tardy. 11. If a student chooses not to dress out he or she will be assigned to a designed area for the entire class period. If the student fails to report to the assigned area he or she will be considered skip and a referral will be issued. 12. Students must report to designed area after dress-in time. Any student found outside of the designed area will be considered skipping and that student will be issued a referral. 13. Physical Education uniforms are your personal items and should not be shared with any other students. 14. All uniforms must be laundered at least once a week. Lockers Each student will be assigned a small gym locker (at not cost) to be used store to store their physical education uniforms while not in class. A. All items brought to the locker room must be locked up. B. SHS is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. C. Do NOT tell anyone your locker combination and be careful that no one looks over your should and sees your combination. D. If you are having a problem with your lock or locker, ask a coach for help. DO NOT ask another student for help. Physical Education 1 Classroom Rubric Students grades for the classroom portion of PE 1 will be as follows: Homework – 20% Class assignments- 20% Test- 20% Class participation- 20% Dressing out- 20% Students will not be dressing out during this classroom period. Parents please be aware that students will have homework in the health section of physical education 1.
