All About Mrs.Beihl and
My Philosophy of Teaching

Hello! Thank you for visiting our website!
I have been an early childhood teacher for twenty-eight years. In 2001-2002 I taught Kindergarten at Slater-Marietta. Since that time I have taught in Virginia and at Crestview Elem. in Greer. I was very happy when the opportunity came for me to return to Slater-Marietta and teach second grade.

I grew up in Manning, South Carolina and received my B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. I earned my Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of S.C. I have earned forty-five hours above my Masters in Early Childhood and Special Education.

I live in Greer with my husband, Dave. We have two children David (28) and April (27). We have one grandchild and two special little dogs named Mitsy and Jasmine and one cute little bunny. We attend Harmony Fellowship Church and enjoy reading and gardening. I have also traveled extensively. During my husband's military service we were stationed in Germany for six years. While in Germany we visited more than ten countries.
I meet all the guidelines set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act. I am a highly qualified teacher.

My Philosophy of Teaching
"There was a child went forth every day,
And the first object he look'd upon, that object he became,
And that object became part of him for the day or a certain part of the day,
Or for many years or stretching cycles of years."
-Walt Whitman

The words to this Walt Whitman poem, There Was A Child Went Forth…have made an indelible impression on me. These are powerful words for people who work with children. I am especially cognizant of the impact I have on children. Other than their parents, I am probably the most influential adult in their lives for the time I teach them. As a teacher I have the responsibility of influencing how students will view their future school experiences. I see teaching as a triad of responsibilities. The first of these is to prepare an environment that is conducive to learning; secondly to instill in all children a desire to learn and finally to encourage and foster relationships. I realize that children will not care what I teach until they know that I care.
