Student Achievement
from Miss Tisdall's Language Arts Classes

Welcome to my Language Arts classes.

As an introductory writing assignment students in team 7.1 wrote a short narrative about the topic: The Best Part of Summer 2006.
The drafts below were written by students from 7th period Challenge.

Crabbing
Danielle Henson

Over the summer I went crabbing with my two younger sisters, my mom, and a friend of my grandma’s. We went to the International Waterway, which goes from New York City to Florida. When we got there we had to unload the trunk of things we needed. We had chairs, shoes, sticks, strings, a picnic basket of food, and chicken necks for the crabs. After we unloaded our things to the picnic tables we put on our water shoes, grabbed the sticks, strings, chicken necks, buckets, nets, and chairs and went down to the water.
Once we got to the water as we started tying the sticks, strings, and necks together, we saw a fisherman who caught three little sharks. Crabbing was easier than I thought it would be. We just threw out our string tied to the stick. We held our string between our thumb and pointer finger until we felt a tug. Once we felt a tug we just slowly pulled the string so we could catch the crab without it letting go. To catch it we just slowly pulled the crab and put the net under it. We caught about nine crabs total. I would really enjoy going crabbing again next summer. I loved it.

Dollywood
Kelly Melton
I always go to Dollywood with my aunt every summer. She lets me invite one friend, so I invited my best friend Asheton. She HATES upside-down roller coasters! But there was one that did go upside-down, and it was called the Tennessee Tornado. I don’t know how I did it, but I got her to get on it! There wasn’t a long line, so we got on it quickly.
When we got on the coaster, it started out fast so it could get up the hill. She didn’t want to look straight, so she looked down. She finally lifted her head up as soon as we reached the top but when the coaster went down, so did her head. Her head stayed down for the whole ride! When we finally went to go see the photos of us on the roller coaster, she looked so funny!
She ended up going on that ride six more times after that! So, I think she had fun!
