Greer High Transition Program

The Transition Program at Greer High School was created by John Mauldin in the 1980's to help prepare students with moderate mental disabilities for adult life.

The program continues to meet the needs of students at Greer High School in the following areas:

-Supported Employement
-Apartment Living
-Community-Based Instruction
-Peer Tutoring

OUR GOAL is to teach students with disabilities how to live, work, and recreate independently in the community.

One component of our Transition Program is our Peer tutoring program. We offer an elective course for students from the general population who are interested in working with students who have disabilities. These peer tutors work one-on-one with our students on individually designed programs that allow students to practice the skills that they will need to be independent adults. Peer tutors also serve as Unified Partners and coaches for our Special Olympics team.

We hope the information on this site is helpful to students, parents, and fellow educators alike. Please contact us if you have questions or would like additional information about how to incorporate peer tutors into your program.
