Mrs. Shelley's Nurses Notes

BRYSON ELEMENTARY HEALTH ROOM
Please go over these very important rules concerning medications given at school. Your child's health and safety are very important to us at Bryson Elementary.

1. All children receiving "long term" medications, those given on a daily basis (like Ritalin, Adderall etc.) must have parental and physician permission slips signed and returned in order for your child to receive any medication. Any medication that is to be taken more than 10 days is considered "Long Term" medication.
2. When a child takes medications at home (Ritalin, Adderall, etc.) and arrives to school having forgotten to take the medication at home, we cannot give the missed dosage. Please remember to give your child the medication before he or she leaves home.
3. If your child has asthma and uses an inhaler, please provide the school with the inhaler. This is very important since an asthma attack can occur at any possible moment. This can be triggered by many soucres and an emergency can arise quickly. Parental and physician forms are needed.
4. All short-term medications (taken 10 days or less), like antibiotics, Tylenol, Tums, or cold medicine, must be accompanied by a parental permission form. Please include the student's first and last name, medication name, time and amount to be given and for how many days. Please sign and date the form. We are not allowed to give any kind of herbal suplements or those not approved by the FDA.
5. AN ADULT MUST BRING ALL MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL. Medications need to be in the orginal container. Please bring only the amount needed for the duration of the treat ment. NO MEDICATIONS WILL BE SENT HOME WITH THE STUDENT. These policies are from the School District of Greenville County.
6. If your child has a severe reactions to insect bites, food or other allergens, we must have medications for him/her at school. This medication is usually Benadryl or EpiPen Type applications. We also need parental and/or physician forms for these also.

I look forward to the opportunity to take care of your child this year. Let's make it a heathy one. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 355-3607.
