| The Jag Model focuses on rising ninth graders who show
academic promise, but may have had challenges in those areas in the past. Model
objectives include:
- Delivering a prescribed set of services during the
in-school phase of the program, including:

Remediation in basic skills (e.g. reading and math)

Competency-based classroom instruction

Participation in student-led Career Association chapter to develop,
practice, and refine leadership skills.

Coaching, guiding and counseling program participants.
-
Connecting participants with mentors to serve as role-models.

Providing summer employment opportunities to participants prior to
graduation.

Interceding with school administrators, counselors and faculty on behalf
of program participants.
- Delivering a prescribed set of services during the
follow-up phase of the program including:

Marketing the program and graduates to employers and post-secondary
institutions

Placing graduates in entry-level jobs leading to career advancement
opportunities.

Following up with graduates, non-graduates, employers and others to
improve performance on the job.

Encouraging employers to provide changes in status during follow up phase
of the program, i.e., increase in wages, increase in hours, promotion,
advancement, etc.

Encouraging graduates to enroll in a post-secondary education degree or
certification program.

Directing graduates to sources for financial assistance to attend a
postsecondary institution.

Encouraging non-graduates to complete high school graduation requirements
or attain a GED certificate before the end of the follow-up phase.
- Achieving high performance outcomes based on services
delivered in the in-school phase (1-4 years of in-school services) and
12-month follow-up phase.
Participants in JSCG were selected based on academic
performance, standardized test scores, and attendance and discipline records.
