TMS Among the Best in South Carolina

Wow! What a day!! Once again our students made us proud and brought home more awards than any Greenville school!!!
First, let me say that all of our students did a fabulous job representing TMS on Saturday (4/29/06) at the state history day finals. The competition was extremely tough!! Most categories had 15-20 projects, and only 3 projects receive medals--2 gold and 1 silver (the gold go to nationals and the silver serves as alternate).

We have 2 groups that received silver medals

Carlos Garcia, Miguel Antonio, Alfonso Sanchez, Jose Chavez, Faustino Miguel for their group documentary Father Hidalgo
Yessenia Leon, Maricruz Gutierrez, Wendy Diaz for their exhibit Cesar Chavez

We also have a gold medal winner who will advance to nationals:

Mahalia Mays for her performance Janet Collins
And to top it all off, Mahalia also received the state award for most outstanding African American topic!!! This award comes with $250.00.

Erika Roman, Noemi Cruz, Diana Rodriquez, Juliana Mendoza did an outstanding job presenting their documentary Stand Firm for Hawaii, as did Takaylah West, Shayna Sanders, and Ebony Harris with their project Madame CJ Walker.

Please take a moment next week to congratulate all of these students. NHD is a very rigorous event. Students not only create a project, performance or documentary, they write a process paper, an annotated bibliography (MLA format), and are interviewed by the judges. They are definitely experts on their topics.

Thank you to everyone who pitched in, encouraged, and supported our students. It was so nice to see people dropping by to ask questions, offer ideas or advice, and volunteering to assist. It's great to work with such a fabulous group of caring people!!!
