Author Steve
Cotler Coming to Summit Drive Elementary
School
On Wednesday, February 6, children's
book author Steve Cotler will speak to
3rd-5th graders about writing, reading,
and his series of children's novels from
Random House. Cheesie Mack Is Not a
Genius or Anything was picked by the
children's librarians associations of
both South Carolina and New Hampshire as
one of the best children's books of
2012-2013. Mr. Cotler's workshops are
interactive. He excites students about
reading and writing. He engages them in
the creative process and challenges them
to imagine.
If you would like your child to have an
autographed copy of Cheesie Mack Is
Not a Genius or Anything and/or

Cell Phone Zone
Would you use your cell phone while
driving if you knew...
*In 2009, 5,474 people were
killed on U.S. roadways and an estimated
additional 448,000 were injured in motor
vehicle crashes as a result of
distracted driving?
*Of those people killed in
distracted-driving-related crashes, 995
involved reports of a cell phone as a
distraction?
*Studies show that driving while
using a cell phone is the equivalent to
driving with a blood alcohol content of
0.08, the legal definition for drunken
driving?
*Cell phone users are 4 times
more likely to crash?
Now You Know!
One out of every six drivers in
school zones is distracted by the use of
cell phones, eating, drinking, smoking,
reaching behind, grooming and reading.
For the safety of our students, please
reduce the risk and SILENCE your cell
phones while driving.
