The following are club offerings for the 2011-12.
Art Club (Mr. Benjamin) Welcome to the Artist’s Studio. Go beyond what you learn in art class to explore a variety of artistic media. Prepare yourself for some serious self-expression!
Gym Club (Mrs. Rohrer) *** 5th GRADE ONLY*** Activities will vary from team and individual sports to Mrs. Rohrer's more unusual games. Let's get moving!
Stone Publishing Company (Mrs. Slate) What do you really know about your teacher? Find out the real story. Create the legendary and infinitely collectible Stone Staff Trading Cards. Plus, you'll make a television commercial. Select only if you have never been in this club before.
The Stone Star Journal Club (Ms. Grimsley) Do you like writing, taking pictures, and keeping up with current events? Then this club is for you! Become a journalist for our school newspaper. We'll be learning how to write articles, will conduct interviews, and will take pictures of events going on at Stone. Then we'll put it all together through Microsoft Publisher!
Lego Club (Mrs. Lee) New!!! Students will use Legos to build and create.
Games & Things Club (Mrs. Gilstrap) This club will be a good time for you to sharpen your skills while having fun. We will play all kinds of different games as well as create our own games and solve some puzzles. Board games, computer games, and even outside games.
Checkers Club (Ms. Holmgren) New!!! Come join Checker Club where you will learn strategies and battle to win against other fourth and fifth grade students. Will you be the next champion?
Jewelry Making Club (Mrs. Smith) It’s time to accessorize! Necklaces, bracelets, you name it; this club will make it.
Tinikling (Mrs. McClain) Be ready to jump, jump, jump! Students will learn how to do Tinikling! It is the official dance of the Philippines that involves lots of jumping! It is similar to jump-rope, but with a twist. You will need coordination, lots of energy, and some good jumping shoes!
Garden Club (Mrs. Dodson) Students will be getting dirty planting. We will also be creating an art masterpiece this year, painting and designing fence pieces to make the garden more appealing. Students will also be helping label each plant in the garden with a bamboo stake and name card.
New!!! Print out the SLAM art/literature submission form to nominate a student's work for inclusion in the magazine. (Student art/poetry selected for publication on notecards are automatically considered) SLAM-Stone Literary and Art Magazine Club (Mrs. Littlejohn) FIRST SEMESTER Have you ever wanted to produce a magazine? Now is your chance! We are introducing a new magazine at Stone featuring the literary and art work of Stone students. Club members will become editors and help students prepare pieces of original writing for publication. Parent volunteers will be on hand to guide the editing process. The magazine will be a 24 page glossy edition that comes out at in the spring. Club members’ names will be listed as editors in the new magazine! First semester club, drafting and editing, will meet in the library with Mrs. Littlejohn. Second semester club, publishing and compiling, will meet in Mrs. Vaughn’s room.
SLAM-Stone Literary and Art Magazine Club (Mrs. Vaughn) 2nd SEMESTER Publishing and compiling.
Battle of the Books (Mrs. Littlejohn) ***SECOND SEMESTER ONLY*** Play on teams in a quiz-bowl format to answer questions about 10 great books. The books you will read are S.C. Children's Book Award nominees. Weekly practice rounds will culminate with a school play-off to select one team to represent Stone at the district competition.
