Courtyard "Secret" Garden
Harvesting Crops
Garden Used as an Outdoor Classroom
Mural Entrance
Planting the Palmetto Tree
The Vision:
Christi Bailey, chair of the PTA Landscaping and
Beautification Committee spearheaded the courtyard project that is
taking place now, in the Fall of 2004.
Nancy Kennedy obtained a $3,000 grant from Lowes, which has provided
many of the materials. Parents are providing the labor. Architect Dabney Peeples
donated his time and talent to provide the plan. Christi
envisions teachers using the project to incorporate a variety of science
activities, such as composting. Patrice Lineberger (2005-06 PTA
President) made the garden her "pet" project. Her husband, Steven,
owner of Southern Greens, donated his time, money, landscaping crew, and
materials to bring the garden to this point in May of 2006. He
plans to support the garden, with the help of
Carolyn Henry and the 2006-07 Landscape Committee, with ongoing
improvements and by making this area a "working" outdoor classroom.

Students plants seedlings sprouted in the classroom.
Mission Statement:
The Stone Academy Courtyard Garden will provide a peaceful sanctuary
for students and staff and will encourage enviromental awareness and
the discovery of the connection between life and earth as well as the
incorporation of the arts and supplementing certain academic areas.
The Plan:

 Lowes'
contributions help make our garden a reality. |
 |
Kelly Lanford donated a large
quantity of topsoil from Scott's Company in Travelers Rest, much of
which was transported by Rick Ingram. Landscaper's Supply picked
up the remainder of the soil and delivered it to school.
Thanks!!!

Workday 3 Harvesting the Bamboo |
|
We harvested our bamboo on Friday, January 14. We went to
Mrs. Mary McKinney's home/garden. She has been using Mr.
Peeples as her landscape designer for 15 years. James,
Bryan Howell, Roy Schlaudt, and Mr. Peeples cut about 75
trees. We have a bundle of 12 foot long pieces. They
are now stored in the basement of the school and will take
around 2 weeks to cure.
