Sterling 2012-13 Teacher of the Year - Sara Newell (Info Coming Soon!)
Sterling School has a strong academic tradition continued by our diverse and dynamic staff. Each Sterling employee strives to help students meet their academic, social, emotional, and leadership potential in their role as 21st century learners. While following the South Carolina State and Greenville County School District Academic Standards as foundations to build integrated, inquiry/problem-based units of instruction, our teachers direct student learning toward applying skills and concepts to new situations, thus promoting and enhancing independent thinking and real world problem solving. Each grade level strives to use innovative and active learning techniques that enhance student learning, while complementing and extending skills and knowledge previously acquired. Teachers work collaboratively on a regular basis and utilize shared information taken from individual learning styles, multiple intelligences, and learning profiles to best teach to each student’s strengths. They share the belief that all students have a right to educational experiences that are engaging, worthwhile and that enable them to develop unique gifts, pursue natural talents and interests, and become motivated, lifelong learners.

Student Technology Use

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) - Sterling School recognizes the effects of rapidly changing technology on society, taking into account that people no longer can learn everything there is to know in a lifetime.  21st-century competencies combined with critical thinking, complex problem solving, collaboration, and multimedia communication are woven into all content areas, providing opportunities for students to develop lifelong skills in information, media and digital literacies. Students and employees are expected to use electronic technologies to further the district’s educational mission, goals and strategic direction.

Copyright - Sterling School utilizes an online course management system known as Moodle for CTC students in grades 4-8 to access their homework, post assignments, participate in discussion boards, and access additional resources. CTC students will enroll in each of their regularly scheduled classes using the individual teacher's Moodle enrollment key.

  • Student Email Accounts - Greenville County Schools provides students with district hosted email accounts for school use starting in third grade. Student email accounts are introduced at the grade level and time that the classroom teacher determines that it is a worthwhile tool for curriculum instruction and that students have reached the appropriate maturity level to handle the responsibility of proper "netiquette." Instruction will be provided on how to manipulate and use the email system as well as acceptable behavior when using such media.

Internet Safety - Sterling School makes a good faith effort to protect its students from exposure to Internet materials that are harmful or explicit. In adherence to the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the district utilizes filtering software on all school equipment with Internet access. Educational staff will, to the best of their ability, monitor minors' use of the Internet in school, and will take reasonable measures to prevent access by minors to inappropriate material on the Internet.
