Sterling Parents

Parents are highly involved at Sterling School. Whether serving on the PTA Board or the School Improvement Council or volunteering to make copies, tutor students, and/or help with clubs and after school programs, our Sterling students and staff depend on parental support as an integral part of our school environment and success. Parents, teachers, and administrators at Sterling School work cooperatively and share the responsibility to provide advanced learning opportunities at school and at home teaching students to communicate effectively, solve problems competently, think critically and creatively, and act responsibly as our future leaders.
Student Technology Use
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) - Sterling School recognizes the effects of rapidly changing technology on society, taking into account that people no longer can learn everything there is to know in a lifetime. 21st-century competencies combined with critical thinking, complex problem solving, collaboration, and multimedia communication are woven into all content areas, providing opportunities for students to develop lifelong skills in information, media and digital literacies. Students and employees are expected to use electronic technologies to further the district’s educational mission, goals and strategic direction.
Moodle - Sterling School utilizes an online course management system known as Moodle for CTC students in grades 4-8 to access their homework, post assignments, participate in discussion boards, and access additional resources. CTC students will enroll in each of their regularly scheduled classes using the individual teacher's Moodle enrollment key.
Student Email Accounts - Greenville County Schools provides students with district hosted email accounts for school use starting in third grade. Student email accounts are introduced at the grade level and time that the classroom teacher determines that it is a worthwhile tool for curriculum instruction and that students have reached the appropriate maturity level to handle the responsibility of proper "netiquette." Instruction will be provided on how to manipulate and use the email system as well as acceptable behavior when using such media.
Internet Safety - Sterling School makes a good faith effort to protect its students from exposure to Internet materials that are harmful or explicit. In adherence to the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the district utilizes filtering software on all school equipment with Internet access. Educational staff will, to the best of their ability, monitor minors' use of the Internet in school, and will take reasonable measures to prevent access by minors to inappropriate material on the Internet.
