Welcome to the happy home of SAM the robot located in the Computer Science Lab (room 227) at Southside High in Greenville SC. SAM is a a retired FIRST competition contender. He was built by the UpStaRT team and competed in 2001 thanks to the sponsorship of Michelin. You can see pictures of him and the team that built him by clicking here.

 

These days SAM is being re-fitted as an ambassador for both Southside High and the UpStaRT team and is currently being re-fitted with a TV camera eye, artificial ear, and speaker so that he can communicate with people.

 

SAM originally had a large basket for carrying balls, however this has been scrapped and is being replaced with his new head. SAM is also being outfitted with a new skin made of an aluminum and plywood composite. He look very different from his original appearance.
