The Aerospace Science (AS) Curriculum consists of four
courses: AS-I, AS-II, AS-III, AS-IV
AS-I
A history/political science course. It
covers the history of flight form the earliest human attempts to contemporary
aerospace developments. The focus is on how aviation has contributed to
history. .
AS-II
A science course. The environment in
which the operation of air and spacecraft is examined. The student also
learns the principles of flight and navigation, as well as how the human body
responds to flight in the atmosphere and outer space.
AS-III
A science course. The study of flight
beyond the atmosphere is continued. The focus is on rocketry, propulsion
systems and space vehicles.
AS-IV
An honors course. It focuses on the
management of the cadet corps. By serving in senior staff positions,
cadets get a hands-on opportunity to teach, lead and plan corps activities.

AFJROTC is an
elective and does NOT incur any military obligation. It is unlike
any other course at SHS. It's classes are built on good order and
discipline. To be successful, a cadet must:
-
Comply with Air
Force Standards of dress, appearance and conduct
-
Practice Air Force
Customs and Courtesies
-
Be responsible and
perform tasks which develop leadership potential

Leadership Training Program |
"Leadership", as defined by the Air Force, is
the "art of influencing and directing people in a way that will win their
obedience, confidence, respect and loyal cooperation in achieving a common
objective."
The principles and techniques of this art can
be taught academically, but they are of little value to a cadet without
practical application. AFJROTC leadership training provides each cadet the
opportunity to develop leadership potential through practice and experience in a
military organization. Corps training is basic to leadership development
in that it provides the frame work for learning by doing in a real-life
situation. |
