School Improvement Council

The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to a school's principal and faculty. Unlike PTA/Os and other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina (now more than 1100). SICs play a key role in the education of our state's children, bringing together parents, educators and community stakeholders to collaborate on the improvement of their local school. More than 16,000 people serve on SICs in South Carolina.

Objectives:

To gain knowledge concerning the purpose and goals of the school.
To disseminate information to other parents and citizens within the community and to clarify information concerning school programs.
To offer suggestions concerning program improvements with respect to students needs and program operations within the individual schools.

Dear Parents and Staff:

The School Improvement Committee (SIC), is made up of SES staff, parents, and community members working together to improve our school. SIC is now requesting your help. We are looking into increasing the number of school programs and functions at Simpsonville Elementary school. Below you will find a list of activities that we feel may interest a broad range of students. Most of these programs have little or no additional cost but do require volunteers to make them work. We are asking that both parents and staff fill out this survey and return it by April 15, 2005. We will then look at the activities that are most desired by both staff and parents. Once we have that list we will begin our work. Our goal is to institute five new programs over the course of five years. If we can do more we will, but that is largely up to the number of volunteers we get involved. If you are able to volunteer to help with any of these programs please check the” I can volunteer” column. Please realize that we cannot run any of these programs without volunteers. Even if you can only give one hour once a month that may be more helpful than you can guess.
