Principal Karen Kapp

I am very pleased to join the Sevier Middle School community as Principal. With 30 years of experience in education, middle school is my favorite place to work. Students and teachers are always eager to grow and learn, making every day an exciting experience.

I grew up in Columbia, S.C. with 3 younger brothers. After graduation from Spring Valley High School, I earned my Bachelors Degree from Erskine College and a Masters Degree from Furman University.

I enjoy sports, travel, movies, and visits with my nephews and grandchildren.

My professional background includes over 23 years as an administrator. I began as a Physical Education teacher, worked as a resource teacher, and then assistant principal.

After 8 years as principal of Hughes Middle School, I joined Sevier Middle as principal, and then became the Director of Federal Programs at the Central Office. In the past 5 years, I have been honored to serve as Principal at Tanglewood Middle School.

In my lifetime, I have learned that the most important tools crafting a person's success are hard work, honesty, positive relationships, and a mission to leave every situation better than you found it.

My greatest joy is watching enthusiastic students demonstrate their learning in creative ways. In the year ahead, I encourage each of you to seek your gifts and build on them; that you will commit to your best work each day; and that you will grow wisely as you prepare for successful years ahead.
