About Dr.
Burns:
Dr.
Melissa Burns has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and
principal in Greenville County schools, Wake County Public School
System, and Spartanburg County District 6 in the eighteen years she
has been an educator. This is Dr. Burns’ eighth year as an
elementary school principal. She is a graduate of North Carolina
State University where she earned her doctorate degree in
Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and the University of
South Carolina for her Master’s degree in Educational Administration
and undergraduate degree in elementary education. She relocated back
to South Carolina from the Raleigh, NC area in the summer of 2011 to
return closer to family as her family continues to grow.
Dr.
Burns is married to Jay Burns and has one daughter. Her family is
expecting another baby girl this fall. Dr. Burns loves to spend time
with family and friends, travel especially to coastal or tropical
destinations, read books and magazines, explore with new technology,
and exercising or taking yoga classes.
She
feels so fortunate to be a part of the school family at Sara Collins
Elementary where the focus is on students, staff, families, and
community providing the best educational opportunities possible for
ALL students!

About Mrs. Elliott: Mrs. Elliott
began her teaching career in Horry County where she taught fourth
grade. After she got married, she moved to the Upstate. She taught
second grade in Spartanburg District 6 for seven years. She received a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Coastal Carolina
University, a Masters of Education degree from USC Upstate, and an
Education Specialist degree from Converse College in Administration and
Supervision. Mrs. Elliott received Level 3 International
Baccalaureate Primary Years Program training during the summer of 2006.
Her husband, Floyd, owns Front
Street Investments, the Peddler, and Ricky’s Drive-In all located in
Spartanburg. They have a Bassett Hound, Buster, and a rabbit, Mr. B.
Mrs. Elliott enjoys shopping, traveling, boating on Lake Hartwell, and
attending Clemson athletic events. Go Tigers!
She is excited to be at Sara Collins
Elementary and to be a part of such a wonderful school. Mrs. Elliott
believes that all students can learn and that education is a shared
responsibility of the home, school, and community. |
About Mrs. Suber: Mrs. Suber
is excited to be in her fourth year as the Administrative Assistant at
Sara Collins Elementary. She has a B.A. in Criminal Justice from
SC State University, Master of Education from Converse College, Master
plus 30 from Furman University, and Administration/ Supervision
certification from Clemson University. She has been with the
School District of Greenville County for 24 years, in which 20 of those
years were as a classroom teacher.
Mrs. Suber lives in Travelers Rest with her husband,
Melvin. They have a son, a daughter, and a niece that they raised.
Their son, MJ, is a senior at North Greenville University. Their
daughter, Brittany, is a preschool teacher with Headstart and lives in
Greenville with her husband, Jarvis. and daughters, Breasia and Braelyn.
Their niece, Tiyah, is currently completing her basic training with the
US army Reserve and will return back to USC Aiken in the spring.
Mrs. Suber enjoys spending time with her family,
taking daily walks at Furman with her husband, and most importantly,
being with her granddaughters!
She believes that children reach their highest
academic potential when the spheres of influence (parents, community,
and school) are working together to make a difference for every child.
She embraces her many roles and responsibilities as an educator, finding
them wonderful and challenging. Mrs. Suber always looks forward to
working with students and their parents.
