GREETINGS FROM THE HEALTH ROOM! This year has definitely started off with a bang! We have had a few viruses, but nothing out of the ordinary. Please take a moment to remind your student to frequently wash hands and cover their coughs. Every little bit helps! I want to take this opportunity to review some health room policies. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. · If a student needs a medication to be administered during school hours, please secure the appropriate documentation from the health room or the district website. Over the counter meds, including cough drops, requires the “Authorization for Non-Prescription Medication At School” form to be completed and brought in by an adult with the desired medication. Please be reminded these meds must be age appropriate, in the original container, and with a current expiration date. · Prescription medications require the “Authorization for Prescription Medication At School” form to be completed by the physician and the parent when the medication is presented for administration. The prescription must have the student’s name, the name of the medication, the date the prescription was filled, and how the student is to take the medication. Controlled substances have to be counted in and out with a designated staff member. · PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION OF ANY KIND TO SCHOOL BY YOUR STUDENT. AN ADULT MUST BRING ALL MEDS TO THE SCHOOL NURSE. THIS AGAIN INCLUDES, COUGH DROPS. · This is the season for colds, strep, bronchitis, and stomach viruses. While attendance is very important for each student’s academic success, it is a documented fact that students perform better when they are well and not distracted by illness. If your student does not feel well to the point he or she is unable to perform in class, please allow them to remain at home to get well. · If your student has a temperature of 100° or greater, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, please allow them to remain at home. Even if a student is given medication and the fever is reduced, the student remains contagious. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. · Parents with younger student’s, you may want to consider sending an extra set of clothing in the book bag. When a student has an accident such as this, they have to remain in the health room where they are exposed to all of the germs and viruses! · Finally, I am completing the hearing and vision screens of the student body. If a student fails the vision screenings, I will send a letter home. If there is an issue with taking the student to the ophthalmologist for further testing, please contact me as soon as possible. If a student fails the hearing screening, they are referred to the school district audiology doctor. Her office will send a letter instructing a parent or guardian to contact her office to schedule further testing. This is a service provided by the school district. As always, it is a pleasure to be a part of the wonderful staff at Plain Elementary School. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Until next time! Amoretta Dogan,
