3rd grade challenge students

"WHERE IN THE WORLD IS KING MARLEY?"

This year the third grade Challenge students learned about community service through a unit titled "Marking our Mark on Greenville".  The students decided that they wanted to donate special books to the Children's Hospital as their way of giving back to the community.  The students were introduced to a king named King Marley and learned all about his crazy adventures as he traveled around the world.  Each week, the students were able to chat live with King Marley and hear about the wonderful places he was visiting.  The King asked students to write fairy tales based on his travels and each student did just that.  The books were sent away to be published and on May 18, a representative from the Children's Hospital came and received a copy of each student's published book! The students were so proud of their accomplishment and know that many other children will get to learn about King Marley through their books.

Christmas Tree decorated by art students FESTIVAL OF TREES
This year Oakview participated in the Festival of Trees.  Our tree is located at the Marriot on Pelhem Road.  We are very excited about our theme this year.  The Art Explorers in conjunction with Guidance has been working feverishly to create ornaments out of the selfless wishes the entire school has made.  Each and every student, Teacher, Faculty and staff's name is on this tree.  We hope you will stop by and see the tree which is located near the pool entrance of the Marriot.  Below is the poem that is displayed next to the tree to represent all of our efforts.  Have a Happy Holiday.
When you wish upon a star
To help all people near and far
A selfless wish is what we can do
To help all other from feeling blue
We have opened our hearts onto this tree
So one day we may be
Gentle and kind selfless and true
Here are our wishes for all of you
