Oakview Elementary Earns Champion's Award
Columbia - Oakview's program, "Students in Action: Making a Difference," has earned a $500 award from Champions of the Environment to expand our environmental efforts. "The environmental efforts at Oakview are quite substantial," said Lynne LaSalle, DHEC program coordinator for Champions of the Environment. "They have a comprehensive recycling program, which processes many kinds of recyclables including paper and aluminum, but also cell phones, ink cartridges, ...batteries, [six pack rings and tennis shoes]."
In addition to the cash prize, the school will receive Champions of the Environment gives-away items. A television commercial about the project will air on WIS-TV in Columbia.
Champions of the Environment is in its 13th year of promoting environmental education by providing reward and recognition. The Champions program is sponsored by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, International Paper, Eastman Chemical Company and WIS TV.
