The Veterans Oral History Project at Northwest Middle is a continuation of the work that Northwest students have done since 1994. 


Veterans Oral History Project Interviews

The three men facing the camera on the right are World War II Veterans we have interviewed.  They are (R to L) Mr. Ron Sluder, Mr. Homer Bryant, and Mr. Roy Gullick.

Mr. Ralph Warren

Seventh graders talk with Mr. Ralph Warren on April 21, 2006. Mr. Warren is a World War II veteran. He was a Marine Aviator and flew the F4U Corsair. His squadron was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin. Mr. Warren was on board the USS Franklin in March of 1945 when it was hit by a bomb from a Japanese plane.

Mr. Sluder's interview

Seventh graders interview Mr. Ron Sluder in March of 2005. Mr. Sluder was in the 94th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Duck's interview

Seventh grade students pose with Mr. Hugh Duck during an interview. Mr. Duck served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in the European Theater.

Interview with Mrs. Louise Dicey.

Interview with Mrs. Louise Dicey. She worked at Union Bag Company in Savannah, Georgia during World War II. She shared her memories of the home front during World War II.

Interview with Mrs. Frances Duncan.

We interviewed Mrs. Frances Duncan in December 2003. She was a member of the Womens' Army Corps (WACS) during World War II.

interview with Mr. Paul Efstration

Three Northwest seventh grade students conduct an interview with Mr. Paul Efstration.  Mr. Efstration is a World War II veteran. He was in the 1st Infantry Division and landed at Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944.

Seventh graders interview Mr. Thomas Field. Mr. Field is a veteran of World War II. He served on LCT 519 during the Normandy Invasion of June 6, 1944.

Interview with Mr. Michael Davis

Interview with Mr. Michael Davis in the fall of 2003. Mr. Davis was in the US Navy and served on board the USS WASP. He was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.

Interview with Mr. E.K. Puckett on January 11, 2005.  Mr. Puckett was a B-25 radio operator during World War II.  He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Seventh Grade Students interview Mr. James Stepp on January 11, 2005.  Mr. Stepp went in with the 4th Infantry Division on D-Day June 6, 1944.  He was later wounded by German machine gun fire.
