Teacher Web Pages
Each teacher is provided web space for their own website.
Your website is a window into your classroom that parents and
students can use to communicate with you and get needed information about
you and your classes. For best results, pick a consistent theme (background, font
type) that carries on throughout your website. I suggest staying away from
the dark backgrounds. They are harder to read.
On the school home page you may login to work on your
website by clicking on the
icon at the top right under the picture. This will take you to our login
page where you will key in your username. The you will be allowed to login
to your website.
You can also use the address
http://www.staff.greenville.k12.sc.us/sites/username where username is
replaced with your user name in your email address.
Essential Pages In a Teacher Website
Home - This is the page that greets
visitors to your website. It should contain a relevant welcome message and
an invitation to visit other pages.
About - This is your contact page. Here,
put information about yourself: where you went to college, how long you have
been teaching, teacher qualifications, what motivates you, your teaching
philosophy.
News - Use this page to display relevant
news for your classes.
Students - This is your student information
page. Use it to display information related to the student. Links on this
page may relate to your subject, homework page, student achievement page.
Parents - This page is your parent
information page. Use it to display information especially for parents. You
can put your syllabus on this page.
Additional Pages You Will Want
Homework Page - This is a popular page with
both parents and students.
Student Achievement - Here you can put photos of student work/projects with a
little commentary, or you can make links to
individual pages of student work, i.e. writings, poetry, ...
Final Words
The new EdPoint web instrument is a great improvement over
the old templates. You will have much more creative latitude with it.
However, I would caution you not to get too cutsie with it, but to make it
functional and content rich so that parents and students will use it.

Use the
Teacher Website Evaluation Rubric
as a guideline for improving your website. It was
developed by the district from a review of the best K-12 school
websites on the Internet. It has ten
areas for your appraisal. This year, my Panther Pride
awards will be awarded to sites that meet four basic criteria.
Completeness, timeliness, student achievement, and design. |
 |
1. Completeness: Your website must have at least the
basic pages complete and be rich in content. No typos or misspellings are allowed.
2. Timeliness: Your website must be up-to-date. Once
you are set up, most of your pages will be ok for the year. However, I
expect to see "new" News. Your "homework" page must be current always.
3. Student Achievement: I would like everyone to have a
student achievement page. Certainly, there is something in your classes that
is worth sharing with your parents. I will be sharing these pages with our
new district webmaster, Michael Simmons. He showcases these pages in the
Spotlight on Best of Greenville's Schools located at the bottom of the
district home page.
4. Design: Is your site easy to read, easily
navigated, and organized logically and clearly.
Take a look at
Mr. Berklich's Site. His site won the 2007 Webmaster's Choice Gold
Award last year. It is a good example of what we should all strive for.
Mrs. Cleveland's website and
Ms. Brundridge's website also won the 2007 Webmaster's Choice Gold
Award last year.
I will begin looking at teacher websites with an eye towards
the Panther Pride awards after the first interim progress report goes
out. If I can help you,
please, just ask. Together, we can build the best Teacher Websites in the
district.
EdPoint Manual for Teacher Websites
Teacher Website Evaluation
The purpose of
this evaluation is to provide teachers with a self-assessment rubric to
evaluate their website.
These
evaluation standards have been developed from a review of the best K - 12
school websites on the Internet. To use this rubric, assign a score for each
category, and then add the scores.
