Lauren won Miss Greenville Teen 2009 Sat. Nov. 22. She also won Grand talent and evening wear for this event.  Lauren will be representing Greenville in The Miss South Carolina Teen in July.

Move over John Tesh, Travelers Rest has a rising composer!

Congratulations to Jennifer Brooks who won 3rd place at the state level in the SCPTA Reflections Program. The theme of the program was "My Favorite Place." Her music composition was a song entitled "Coming Home."  Jennifer said she thought of the soldiers fighting overseas while writing her music.  The requirements were for her to write an original score, print it on sheet music and make an audio recording.

Northwest Middle Selected as Finalist for Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Awards for 2007

Northwest Middle School and Riverside Middle School are among 14 schools statewide that have been selected, based on extensive evaluations by fellow educators, as finalists for the 2007 Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Schools Award. The application process includes elements on student achievement, faculty training, program goals and teaching quality, office practices, and community involvement.

Jennifer Brooks wins "National Federation of Music Clubs" Competition

Jennifer (a sixth grader) recently competed in a Composer Competition sponsored by Converse College in Spartanburg.   She took first place for the state and now her music will be entered in the Southeastern Regional Competition. 


Northwest Middle finalist for Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Award

Northwest Middle is one of twelve South Carolina schools that are finalists for the 2006 Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Schools Awards. Schools were selected have been selected based on extensive evaluations by fellow educators. The application process includes elements on student achievement, faculty training, program goals and teaching quality, office practices, and community involvement.


 Northwest Student Wins Cover of 2006 Anti-Drug Calendar

Again, a Northwest student has captured the front cover of the Anti-Drug Poster Calendar sponsored by the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office, Bob Ariail, Solicitor.

Congratulations to Erin Ogletree (7th grade), the Grand Prize Winner, who was awarded $300 savings bond for her poster.


Middle School Juried Exhibition Winners

Northwest had 13 entries in the Middle School Juried Exhibition held at The Peace Center during the Artisphere Arts Festival.  Ribbons were given in several visual arts categories.  Art students who placed in the show are:

Another Northwest Winner

Randy Hill, a Northwest 7th grader, won first place in the poster contest sponsored by Healthy Greenville 2025. Randy's entry in the Middle Nutrition category was entitled "Your Health is in your Hands". Randy was presented with a $50.00 check for his winning entry and his sponsoring teacher Mary Bolden also received a prize.

America Recycles Poster Contest Winner

 

Sara Tolson, a Northwest sixth grader, receives a twenty five dollar gift certificate to Haywood Mall from Mr. Givins and Ms.Hitch for creating the winning design in the America Recycles poster contest. 

 


2004-05 Anti-Drug Calendar Winners

Congratulations to Melanie Johnson and Aaron Campbell for placing second in the 2005 Solicitor’s Anti-Drug Poster Contest.  They both took home a $100 savings bond.  Congratulations also to Adam Seay for placing first place with a $ 200 savings bond. Their work will be featured in the 2005 calendars which we will receive during the month of December.  All middle school students in Greenville County will receive a calendar. --- Nell Miller

Congratulations to Art Winners

The following students participated in the Solicitor's 2004 anti-drug calendar contest:  Sarah LeBreton, Candice Campbell, Danielle Goddard, Rachel Heatherly, Kayla Nguyen, Lindsey Cone, Blair Hardin, Amberlee Hedger, James Redding, and Adam Seay.  These students worked several hours after school in order to create an attractive work of art, in terms of a unique slogan and creative visual images. The contest deadline was October 10, 2003.  Sarah LeBreton and Blair Hardin were selected as finalist to have their art work published in the 2004 calendar.  On Friday, October 31, Sarah, Blair and their families met at the Greenville County Courthouse to meet with the Solicitor, Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, and Robert M. Ariail.  It was announced that Sarah won 2nd place for 8th grade with a $100 US Savings Bond and Blair also won 2nd place for 7th grade with a $100 US Savings Bond.  The front cover was granted to a student from R.C. Edwards Junior High School.  The calendars will be available for every middle school student and teacher in Greenville County during the latter part of December.  The public is welcomed to see all winning posters at the Courthouse during the month of November.


Northwest Middle School is now designated as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program School. We received full IBMYP authorization in June 2005.

Golden Web Award

Northwest Site Wins Golden Web Award

On April 12, the 2003-2004 Golden Web Award  was awarded to "Welcome to the Future," Northwest's school website, by the International Association of Web Masters and Designers. The award is presented to web sites whose web design, originality and content have achieved levels of excellence deserving of professional recognition by the association. This the third year running that Northwest has been recognized by the IAWMD.

Winning the Golden Web Award is a recognition of the professional design and content of the School web site.  

In 1997, Northwest Middle School was chosen to be one of the first six schools to be part of Village Green, a US Department of Education technology grant awarded to The School District of Greenville County.
