As we begin the second quarter of the school year, I am
reminded of what a terrific place this is for students. Our teachers and
staff work tirelessly to educate your children in the content and also in
how to become responsible, productive citizens. We all know that we lead by
example and that our children will follow the lead of those adults, teachers
and parents, they look up to. Our children see us doing things, right or
wrong, and they begin to emulate and incorporate those behaviors.
As part of my responsibilities, I must often speak with
teachers, staff members, and students who are not exhibiting proper
behavior. Lately though, I have seen parents who fail to follow the law and
rules of the road, placing not only themselves but their children at risk of
serious injury. I am talking about the folks who continue to make unlawful
U-turns on Langford Road. There are signs posted along the road stating that
these turns are illegal, yet we have a number of people dropping their
children off, or picking them up, who feel this does not apply to them. When
these parents make the illegal turns, they risk harming students crossing
the road, and they create a bottle neck for those parents who are doing the
right thing. We are asking that you follow the law and refrain from making
U-turns in the middle of Langford Road. I will tell you now that law
enforcement officials are aware of the problem and have begun patrolling.
The cost for an illegal U-turn is over $400 and 4 points off your license.
With this said, what message are you sending your children?
Sincerely
Lee Givins
