Student Clubs @ Mauldin Middle

Mauldin Middle School offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities to enhance and expand their learning during middle school.

Academic Team
The purpose of Academic Team is for students to study topics in history, literature, science, and other subjects in order to prepare for competition against other teams in the state and surrounding regions. On Fridays, these students tutor academically challenged sixth grade students. Only eighth grade students may participate. Students take a written test and go through oral tryouts at the beginning of the school year.

Be A Fan Club
The purpose of the Be A Fan Club is to promote friendship and tolerance between students with disabilities and students without disabilities, both during and outside of school. The club meets after school on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Memberships are limited and eligibilty is based on the application, teacher recommendation, and a brief oral interview.

Junior Beta Club
The purpose of Junior Beta Club is to develop scholastic, leadership, and service skills through participation in the State Convention and other events. Seventh and eighth grade students may participate and all members must maintain a 3.7 GPA to remain in the club. Students are required to complete 20 hours of community service during the school year. Club meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month.

Mustang Service Corps
The Service Corps is made up of eighth graders who are interested in serving our school and community. The group helps with traffic after school and performs other service activities for the school and community. Students must have good performance in and out of the classroom and get a teacher recommendation to join. Seventh graders may be invited to join during the last nine weeks of the year in order to train for the next year.

Sandlappers Club
The Sandlappers Club allows eighth grade students the opportunity to help the community in a social environment and to broaden their horizons in a variety of ways. It is offered only to eighth graders and members must submit an application that includes an essay. Club meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month.

Science Club
The purpose of the Science Club is to encourage interest in science and science careers, as well as service to school and community. It is open to all grades. Students must fill out an application form and get teacher recommendations to be considered for the club. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Fun lab activities are completed during the meetings!

Step Team
The Step Team is designed to build self-esteem through a unique form of dance of African-American origins. It is open to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders and all members must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Members are chosen through tryouts. Practices are held on Tuesdays unless the team is preparing for an upcoming competition. The team participates in shows throughout the school year.

Student Council
The purpose of Student Council is to promote school spirit and to give a voice to the student body. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students may participate. Elections for the upcoming school year are held in the spring. Officers must maintain a "B" average and homeroom representatives must maintain a "C" average. Meetings are held monthly during homeroom.

Youth in Government
The purpose of Youth in Government is to give students an opportunity to learn the mechanics of the state legislature and to teach the importance of active participation in democracy. Any student in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade may join YIG if they have not received a referral in the previous or current school year.
