Third Grade Eatable Rocks!

Sedimentary Rocks

We built layers of graham crackers (sand), butterscotch chips (mudslides), chocolate chips (broken rocks), coconut (glaciers bringing rocks and mud) and sweetened milk ( millions of years of rain).

Then we baked it until it was firm and brown (millions of years under the baking sun).

These rocks are formed in layers.

 Igneous Rocks-

We made chocolate cookies by boiling chocolate on the stove and adding peanut butter and oatmeal.

The boiling chocolate reminded us of boiling lava.

The cookies hardened as they cooled like igneous rocks do.

Igneous rocks are formed from lava and magma.  They harden as they cool.  They contain other materials inside them. Pumice comes from a volcano.

First Grade: 100th Day Of School!

The first graders had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th day of school!  Each student created a 100 day project at home to share with their class.  During the day, classes enjoyed reading books about the 100 day, made a 100 necklace out of cereal, wrote 100 words, wore their 100 day glasses and headbands and even did 100 jumping jacks. Even Zero the Hero came to visit and brought a special snack in the shape of a zero!   It was a great day on the first grade hall!

Kindergarten spent several days constructing and decorating gingerbread houses. We then invited the school to come and take a tour of homes. The students really enjoyed doing this project and using their creativeness to make their house look unique.
