Hispanic Education and Information Center
Información Importante Para la Communidad The Hispanic Center at Sullivan Center at 206 Wilkins Street had its grand opening in the fall of 2007. The Center began as a dream of the staff at Lifelong Learning, and it has grown into a reality, with programs being offered to the Hispanic community. The Hispanic Education and Information Center offers classes in English as a Second Language, Spanish GED, Pre-GED in Spanish, and Computer Classes in Spanish. The Hispanic Center is now located in the Annex at the back of the newly renovated Sullivan Center at 206 Wilkins Street. The Center partners with the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh, North Carolina to offer Spanish literacy classes to those Hispanics who have not had the opportunity in their countries to get an education. The Department of Education of Mexico has awarded Lifelong Learning a total of $45,000 to open and operate the Center. The Consulate also furnishes Lifelong Learning with materials for Alfabetizacion, Primaria, and Secundaria. Spanish GED is offered for those students who wish to receive a high school credential from the United States in order to go to a college or technical school.
