Values in Escuela de Padres

Los Valores Humanos Escuelas De Padres Update

Parents in Schools - 2011-2012 School Year

For the third consecutive year, the program “Escuela de Padres” is being implemented at Lakeview.  For the school year 2011-2012, our program “Escuela de Padres” has a new element based on a Human Values Perspective. In that way, the parents can reinforce the values to their kids.  “Escuela de Padres” is continuing with its initial goals.  These goals are:

  • To help Hispanic parents at our school understand their children’s needs.
  • To help Hispanic parents at our school to be more involved in their children’s education by knowing the tools and resources that the school and district have to support their students.
  • To connect resources from agencies and organizations in our area with Lakeview’s Hispanic community.

Representatives from such organizations as the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, the Social Security Administration, the Free Clinic, the Department of Mental Health, America Red Cross, South Carolina Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Furman University, the Greenville Police Department, the Center for Community Services, Cafe Cultura,  DSS (SC Department of Social Services) and La Nación Hispana Newspaper come to speak to our parents.  Escuela de Padres helps children do better in school and feel better about themselves.

This initiative was created was created by Mauricio Molina and Lillie Duncan.  To quote Mr. Molina, “The parents need to grow the same way as the children.  The best teachers are parents.”
