Professional and Technology Education Department Head - Jon Cooper
Department of Professional and Technology EducationMagnet Acadmey and Completer InformationDear Parents and Students: In 2005, the Science Computer classes joined forces with Business Education to create the Department of Professional and Technology Education. It is the goal of this department to develop a forward-thinking, rigorous curriculum with high expectations. To achieve this goal, the department offers a wide array of courses. While the following classes are open to all students, many will be able to work towards a Magnet Acadmey Diploma and/or a Professional and Technology major. The J.L. Mann Department of Professional and Technology Education offers 5 majors. To complete a major, students must complete a minimum of 4 units in one of the following areas. The majors are aligned with the career clusters set forth by the South Carolina Education and Economic Development Act of 2005-06. The majors link what students learn in high school with the knowledge and skills they need for success in college and careers. These majors identify pathways from high school to two- and four-year colleges, graduate school, and the workplace so that students can learn in school what they can do in the future. Finally, the department will offer an Introduction to Business and Marketing class. This ½ unit class, which will be offered opposite Freshman Success, will expose students to various segments of Business including, Accounting, Marketing, Finance, and Technology. We feel that this course, or Integrated Computer Applications I, lays the groundwork for an excellent foundation in business and technology. Therefore, we strongly suggest that freshmen enroll in these courses. Sincerely,
Staff of the Department of Professional and Technology Education
