Many parents have asked how to help Hughes Academy during the current budget shortages.  The STEP program has been initiated to allow staff to make specific requests for supplies that will enhance learning in the classroom.  Simply review the Inventory of Needs provided by the teachers, complete the form below and return to the school with your donated items or funds. Thank you in advance for your continued support of Hughes Academy.

YOU CAN SPONSOR A STUDENT!

We are requesting trip scholarships for some of our science club members.

Every year the science clubs at Hughes Academy take students on a club field trip. The 6th Grade Voyagers go to Camp Kanuga in North Carolina to explore wilderness and aquatic habitats. The 7th Grade Aquanauts go to Homosassa Springs, Florida to swim with the manatees and to learn about the environmental issues impacting wildlife on our planet. The 8th Grade Explorers will be going to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Disney Youth Education Series (YES) Program. They will be going "behind-the-scenes" at theme park attractions to explore Disney's World of Physics - Energy and Waves and Dynamics of Technology.

Some of our students, even though they know that their parents can not afford to pay for the club trip, sign up to participate in the other club activities because they love science and their school. They are excited to help with after school activities such as; working on our nature trail, recycling, maintaining the butterfly garden and collecting donations for charities. Not only are they great volunteers, but they also maintain good grades and must have good behavior to be in the clubs.

Wouldn't it be great to help one of these students enjoy a trip that they will remember for a lifetime? If your family or your company would like to sponsor a student, please contact Mrs. Thibodeaux, Magnet Coordinator, at 355-6224 or lthibode@greenville.k12.sc.us.

The cost for each trip is listed below:

6th Grade Voyagers - $ 160.00

7th Grade Aquanauts - $ 425.00

8th Grade Explorers - $ 575.00

Any donation would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
