Career Specialist

Hillcrest High School’s Career Specialists, Kim Ladson and Lynn Tuten are looking forward to working with students and the community to broaden our students’ knowledge of occupations and aid students in developing an educational path relevant to the student’s interests.

All middle and high schools in South Carolina now have Career Specialists thanks to the passing of the Education and Economic Development Act, also known as Personal Pathways to Success.  Personal Pathways to Success was created to assist students in making the connection between education and their career goals.  To learn more details about this exciting new initiative go to www.scpathways.org.

This legislation began with the class of 2011 and requires students to develop an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).  This school year, sophomores will choose a “major” and will register for classes in the School of Study that represents their chosen career cluster.  Each year the student, parents, and counselor will evaluate the student’s IGP and make changes if necessary.  This will allow students to take their electives in a field (cluster) they are interested in as they develop their career goals; thus, graduating with a skill set or a plan to further their education.
