Grading Guidelines 2006-2007
62 Floor
The following is given to you
as background information:
The states Uniform Grading
Policy established the numeric value for an F in a Pass/Fail course as
a 62.
All grades below 63 carry
0.00 weight when calculating GPA and rank-in-class.
In an April 9, 2002, memorandum from Sandra
Lindsay, Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum Services and Assessment at the
State Department, the states Uniform Grading Task Force clarified the
following:
Students who withdraw from a class after
the allowable number of days stated in the Uniform Grading Policy and
without approval of school administrators will be assigned an F with a
numerical value of 62.
Students who do not receive credit due to
excessive absences will be assigned an F with a numerical value of 62.
Based on this information, which is state
regulation, the district committee that was established in 2002 recommended a
floor of 62 at each reporting period for consistency, since any grade 62 and
below is meaningless as far as GPA and RIC are concerned.
While the administration understands the
rationale, when reviewing it from a daily grading point of view, it appears that
students would not be receiving the actual grades that they earned if a 62 floor
is implemented. Therefore, with the exception of the three state mandates, there
will be no floor for grading. Each teacher will give the absolute numerical
grade a student earns.
