While most high school students are surfing the web, Academy students can control the net! Through the ORACLE Academy, students demonstrate how the web is made dynamic by using Java and database. Students show what they know through hands-on labs, collaborative projects, problem solving exercises and project management opportunities.
When a student finishes the Academy, they possess the skills necessary to be a success in the workforce:

Technical Skills
Students learn SQL, Java programming and PL/SQL skills in the Oracle Academy courses. These skills are used throughout the IT industry in companies around the world.
21st Century Skills
Students develop skills that will help them as they continue their education and in their future careers. These skills include but are not limited to: critical-thinking, problem-solving, resume-building and interviewing, group collaboration and project management.
Industry Certification Opportunity
At the end of Database Programming with SQL, students can earn the opportunity to sit for the Intro to Oracle 9i: SQL certification exam. This is the first part of the Oracle Certified Associate degree, an industry recognized certification. At the end of Database Programming with PL/SQL, students can complete this certification.
Future Careers
Information Technology offers some of the highest paying and most challenging jobs in today's market. With the Oracle Academy, students gain valuable skills that will give them an advantage in pursuing these types of future careers and more: database administration, computer engineering, consulting, technology manager, and project management.
Global Competitions
In the Database Design and Java Programming Part II courses the Oracle Academy sponsors global competitions. These annual events provide the opportunity for all students to gain real world experiences in which the winners receive scholarships.

Database Design and Programming with SQL

Students analyze business requirements and create entity relationship diagrams and data models while building collaboration and problem solving skills. Later, students learn SQL using the Oracle HTML DB tool; they investigate careers, gain interviewing skills and earn certification opportunities.

Java Programming
-Java Programming Part 1
-Java Programming Part 2
Students develop basic Java programming skills, work in teams, and build resumes. Later, students learn application development as they continue to expand their Java programming skills.
**Offered 2006-2007
Database Programming with PL/SQL
Students develop PL/SQL programming, project management, and application development skills. In addition, students have the opportunity to gain certification as an "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate."
