The goal of the Business Department is to provide students with skills needed to pursue the vocation they desire.  We provide a hands-on, occupational-oriented environment with real-world applications.  These applications include the skills most desired by employers such as problem solving skills, business ethics and technological concepts.

No matter what occupation the student chooses, courses in Business Technology Education will always be an asset.  Technology is constantly changing, and the skills and concepts learned in Business Technology Education provide a building block for further education and lifelong learning.

All students must be declared keyboarding proficient.  Students may elect to take Keyboarding/Keyboarding Applications to fulfill this requirement or take the Keyboarding Proficiency Exam.  This exam is offered in the middle schools or at Greenville High in August and January of each year.  There is no fee for the exam and a study guide is available prior to the exam.  Exam dates and times are announced at school.  There is no penalty for failing the exam; however, the student will not be allowed to re-take it.  Upon failure, they will be required to take Keyboarding/Keyboarding Applications.

South Carolina state law (section 59-39-100, SC Code), requires all students to complete 1 unit of Computer Science as part of the high school diploma requirements and be keyboarding proficient.  The following courses are offered at Greenville Senior High Academy of Academic Excellence to satisfy the Computer Science requirement:

 Business Computer Applications (1 unit)
 Word Processing (1 unit)

Business Education provides the student an opportunity to complete a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student for entry into the workforce, a two-year technical college, or a two- or four-year college.
