Our Program

Mission:

Our mission is to foster excellence by empowering students to become critical thinkers, productive citizens, and lifelong learners.

Introduction

Greenville Senior High, a school rich in tradition, is composed of a heterogeneous group of students who function well together.  The socioeconomic status within the attendance area varies from the most poverty stricken to the most affluent.  While some students enter the halls with a strong academic background, others enroll with a skill level below high school expectations.  The unique combination of these varied backgrounds provides a setting where students can develop skills for life as well as find a more complete perspective of the makeup of their society.  Most importantly, students will experience academic opportunities with technological and curricular support for all programs.  A fundamental component of the program is the development of a student’s ability to think critically and to make sound decisions given a set of facts. Development of these critical thinking skills improves the student’s competency in writing, creative thinking and information synthesis.

Magnet Program

Our magnet program with its emphasis on law, finance, and business is a specialized program that prepares students for the 21st century.  While exploring a wide variety of topics and issues, our students will develop an understanding of our legal system and the world’s financial, and business markets. Our goal at Greenville High Magnet Academy is to develop productive members of society who understand these institutions and practice community service.  Our program will open student’s minds to a wider world of career opportunities. We encourage a sense of confidence and family in the support of our students to be all the best that they can be in an often changing and demanding society.  Although our program targets students outside our attendance area, any student attending Greenville High may participate in and find the full benefit of the magnet program.

Students interested injudicial career fields are encouraged to apply to our Law Magnet Program.  Thisfocus area includes courses dedicated to exploring the legal and law enforcement professions.  Students may select classes in Scientific Forensics and Criminal Law, as well as Family and Business Law.  The Donaldson Career Center offers courses in Law Enforcement.
In the focus area of Finance the students are introduced to the ever-changing world of banking, securities, the stock market, personal or business finance, and financial planning. Students who complete this field of study are better prepared to handle their own finances and serve their community.

The magnet focus of Business introduces students to corporate business concepts, management planning, marketing and accounting.  Such elective courses as Sports Marketing, Accounting I & II, Web Page Design, Digital Media, Virtual Enterprise, Advertising, and Entrepreneurship are offered for students.  Completion of this focus area enables the student to better understand the sound decisions that must be made in the business world.
