Addision Greenway (MHS)
"Coming to GSCC has given me so many great career opportunities. I am honored to be representing GSCC at the Skills USA National Conference this summer."

Addision competed in the South Carolina Skills USA Welding competition for high school students.  Thirty-one students competed and Addison finished first place in the state. A first place award comes with an invitation to the National competition this summer in Kansas.

Introduction to Welding
First Year

Grade level: 10-12

Class Meets: 1st Semester AM

Credit: 2 Units each semester/Dual Credit 5

Prerequisites: Math Tech I

Syllabus
 

This course is designed to introduce the student to the work of metal fabrication. The course will cover safety in the workplace including the use of hand and power tools that are used in industry. After successful completion of this course, students will have true working knowledge of electric ARC welding and all related information leading to a career in the Metal Fabrication industry.

ARC/MIG Welding
First Year

Course #: 634082

Grade level: 10-12

Class Meets: 2nd Semester AM

Credit: 2 Units each semester/ 5 Dual Credit hours

Prerequisite: Introduction to Welding

Syllabus
 

This course is designed to improve the skills of students who have knowledge of electric ARC welding. The understanding of working shop drawings is  covered in detail. The ability to draw metal parts, cut them out and weld them to industry standards gives students the basic knowledge needed to enter the metal fabrication industry. Students will be introduced to MIG welding.

MIG/TIG Welding
Second Year

Grade level: 10-12

Class meets: 1st Semester PM

Credit: 2 Units each semester/ 7 Dual Credit hours

Prerequisite: ARC/MIG Welding

Syllabus
 

This course is designed to  improve the skills of students who have knowledge of MIG welding. The uses of blue prints that are used in industry are covered in detail. Students will also be introduced to TIG welding.

Advanced Techniques Welding

Grade level: 10-12

Class meets: 2nd semester PM

Credit: 2 Units each semester/ 4 Dual Credit hours

Prerequisite: MIG/TIG Welding

Syllabus
 

This course is designed to prepare students for entry into the metal fabrication industry. ARC/MIG/TIG welding are covered in greater detail. Focus will be  based upon the ability to draw, cut, and weld advanced metal parts using many types of metals. Upon successful completion of this course, students have the option of entering the metal fabrication industry or continuing with post-secondary education.
