These courses are designed for students who need at least 1 credit of English to be on grade level with their peers. Students will study the District English curriculum that is appropriate for their grade level, including the study of grammar and literature and the development of appropriate writing skills. The course is NOT designed as a remedial course, but is a standard English classes. Students who successfully complete the course will receive the same English unit of credit as in other high school English courses.

Law Education

Prerequisite: None

Law Education is the study of different types of laws, their development, and their role in a democratic society. Emphasis will be placed on citizen rights and responsibilities, law enforcement, the judicial system, liberty and justice. Topics include criminal law, juvenile justice, torts, consumer, family and housing law, and individual rights and responsibilities. This course focuses on the interpretation of cases and law enforcement procedures. Students must be active participants in discussions and simulations. A social studies credit will be earned at the completion of this class. THIS COURSE IS TO BE TAKEN ALONG WITH ENGLISH-GS.

Local Career Awareness

Prerequisite: None

Local Career Awareness is designed to offer students the skills needed in securing and continuing employment and in advancing in his/her vocation. Student will concentrate on developing resumes, writing memos, and investigating various careers. Student will also concentrate on developing team building skills, work ethics, and organizational skills as well as time management skills. Being able to complete various reports used in careers will be emphasized along with the skills needed to verbally communicate ideas and concepts including the completion of a personal portfolio. THIS COURSE IS TO BE TAKEN ALONG WITH ENGLISH-GS.
